Our Technical Team

KenYatta Rogers - Director 

KenYatta Rogers is thrilled to work with these actors, this design team, and this play. He received his BA in English from Clark Atlanta University and his MFA in acting from the University of Pittsburgh. Directing credits include The Agitators (Mosaic Theatre), Rabbit Summer (Ally Theatre), Metamorphoses (Everyman Theatre - Community Company), Slam Theatre 1.0 (New Galaxy Theatre), From Shuffle to Showboat, From U Street to the Cotton Club (InSeries), Spunk (Tribute Productions), I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by A Young Lady from Rwanda, Chain (African Continuum Theatre), Untold Truths (Touchstone Theatre), Conference of the Birds, The Unmentionables, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mr. Marmalade, Heaven, ANTHEMS: Culture Clash in the District, As Bees in Honey Drown, Les Liaisons dangereuses (Montgomery College), Hamlet (Howard University), The Colored Museum (Pitt Theatre and Point Park Conservatory), Late Bus to Mecca (Pitt Theatre), and The 13th Summer of William and Pilar (a shared production between African Continuum Theatre, Gala Hispanic Theatre, and Young Playwrights’ Theatre). He also served as assistant director for City Theatre (Pittsburgh), Lehigh University, South Carolina State University, Henry Brown Theatre Co., and African Continuum Theatre. As an actor, KenYatta has performed for African Continuum Theatre, Arena Stage, Shakespeare & Company, Round House Theatre, Ford’s Theatre, Forum Theatre, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Co., Olney Theatre Center, Folger Theatre, Everyman Theatre, and other regional theatres up and down the East Coast. In addition to his stage work, he has performed in a number of voiceovers, live industrials, and local and national commercials. He is a proud member of the faculty serving in the Performing Arts Department at Montgomery College-Rockville. “To Kasai, my heart, to Mecca, my soul, to Michelle, my all.”

Mikhala Welch - Stage Manager

Mikhala is super excited to apart of this project! Almost a year ago they made the decision to pursue both their dream of stage management and acting. Mikhala originally started as a Biology major and although they were good at what they did, they didn’t find much passion in it, but after taking a theatre class with Professor Jessica Lefkow, they we able to rediscover their love for the world of theatre. Since then they have assistant stage managed once and  stage managed two shows. They have also acted in three previous MC productions including As You Like It, The Musical, in which they played Ms. Amiens. Mikhala can’t wait to leave their imprint on the world of theatre! They would also like to give a shoutout to every single member of the cast who worked diligently to make this happen and to their amazing ASM Julia who has done a fantastic job for their first time ASMing! This show has been a very different process than everyone expected and it has challenged Mikhala in ways they never expected, but it has also created such a wonderful learning experience and allowed them to gain some amazing skills. They want to give big thank you to KenYatta for being an amazing director and mentor. Thank you all and enjoy the show!

Julia Ostlund - Assistant Stage Manager

 Julia Ostlund is excited to ASM for their very first time, especially for a show as compelling and intriguing as [Museum]. Watching and supporting the process has not only been thought-provoking but a great learning experience as well. Witnessing the devising and collaboration for immersive theater inspires them to explore all the different ways stories are told and to push their boundaries for creating art. They would like to thank all the people involved with this show for their dedication and for giving them the opportunity to learn new and different things.

Jenny Walton - Production Manager

Jenny Walton is a practicing visual artist and has taught visual arts a The College of Southern Maryland, Prince Georges Community College, the Corcoran College of Art & Design, and Montgomery College.  Currently she is the Lab Manager for the Visual and Performing Arts Department on the Takoma Park/Silvery Spring Campus of Montgomery College.  Walton holds a BFA from Central Washington University and an MFA from American University (D.C. and Italy). Walton has shown nationally in New York, Miami, Boston,

and Seattle and internationally in Italy. She was awarded an Artistic Fellowship from the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities among several other grants and residencies including Vermont Studio Center, Pyramid Atlantic Art Center and Hamilton Princess, Bermuda. She and has been critically published in several catalogs and articles and her work is held in several distinguished private and public collections.  She lives and works in the Washington D.C. Area.

R. Scott Hengen - Props Designer

R. Scott Hengen earned a MFA in Theatre with an emphasis in Scenic Design from the University of Maryland, College Park. Before earning the MFA, he taught technical theatre at Suitland High School, the Prince George’s County Magnet High School for the Performing Arts. He earned a BS in Secondary Education and a BA in Theatre with a minor in Shakespeare from Penn State University. Scott serves as Production Coordinator and archivist for the Theatre Department at Montgomery College. He designs scenery, properties, and projections for MC productions and maintains the web presence for Theatre and Dance of the Performing Arts Department. He has created scenic designs professionally for Catholic University (City of Angels), Quotidian Theatre (Maytag Virgin), Carroll Community College (Into the Woods), Forum Theatre/Next Stop Theatre (Gidion’s Knot). He is also a member of the Maryland Area Community College Performing Arts Collective (MACCPAC), the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), and USITT – Chesapeake Section.

Peter Zakutansky - Costume Designer

Peter Zakutansky has designed costumes, sets, and make-up for the Theatre Department at Montgomery College for 20 years. He came to Washington, DC, to do graduate work at George Washington University back in the 1970s and “just stuck around.” After teaching at Howard University for ten years and freelance designing for area theaters like Signature Theatre, Studio Theatre, and Woolly Mammoth Theatre, he discovered Summer Dinner Theatre at Montgomery College and was hooked. He has designed costumes for the summer program every year since 1987 and became a fulltime faculty member in 1995, teaching design and designing costumes. Memorable shows include Into the Woods, 42nd Street, and Aida. He and his husband, Luigi, enjoy traveling to exotic places on vacation, and also love to cook and entertain. 

Matt Weese - PAC Technician

Matt Weese graduated from McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, with a degree in theatre/arts and English. He worked with Parlights Concert Lighting as a sales and service associate from 2007 to 2013. In addition, he was a house technician for the Weinberg Center in Frederick. Matt has served as a lighting designer or master electrician for a number of DC and Baltimore schools and colleges. He is pleased to be at Montgomery College. 

Lynn Joslin - Lighting Design 

Lynn Joslin  has designed for Montgomery College’s Performing Arts Series for the past 10 years. She has also worked with the Kennedy Center’s Youth and Family programming, the Washington Opera’s education department, Toby’s Dinner Theatre, Maryland Youth Ballet, Theatre J, Washington Shakespeare Company, Dancesmith Nms, and the 1996 Olympic Arts Festival. Lynn is a member of United Scenic Artists. 

Elizabeth Jenkins-McFadden - Set Designer

Elizabeth Jenkins-McFadden is pleased to return to Montgomery College, where she recently designed sets for Urinetown, Servant of Two Masters, Reckless, Rent, Marisol, and Summer Dinner Theatre. She is resident designer for the Washington Savoyards and serves on their executive board of directors. She is a member of the theatrical designers’ union, United Scenic Artists Local 829. Other designs include Hapgood at Washington Shakespeare Company, Shkspr Prjct at Catalyst Theatre, Snow Angel at BAPA’s Imagination Stage, Pirates of Penzance and La Perichole for the Savoyards, and I Love You Doll and Real Women Have Curves at Gala Hispanic Theatre. Other favorite design projects in the DC area include Dogg’s Hamlet/ Cahoot’s MacBeth for LongAcre Lea Productions, Nixon’s Nixon and Jack and Jill at Round House, and Fen and The Birds at Catholic University. An active designer throughout the DC area since 1989, her work has been seen at the Washington Jewish Theatre, Source Theatre, Kennedy Center Theatre for Young People, American University, Theatre J, MetroStage, Freedom Stage, Adventure Theatre, and many others. She sends thanks and love, as always, to her husband, Neil. 

Neil McFadden - Sound Designer

Neil McFadden (Sound Design) Neil’s sound and lighting designs have been heard (or seen) in many area theatres, including Arena Stage, Studio Theatre, Woolly Mammoth, Olney Theatre, Adventure Theatre, Rep Stage, Longacre Lea, Everyman Theatre, Flying V (where he is a company member), Venus Theatre, and Round House Theatre (where he was the Resident Sound Designer and for eleven years). An eleven-time nominee, Neil received the Helen Hayes Award for his design of Round House’s Heathen Valley. Neil is also a musician and composer: he has played in many area shows; he also performs with several rock/ blues bands, and as a solo acoustic performer. Love to Elizabeth.

Nitsan Scharf - Projections Designer

Nitsan Scharf  is a graduate of the University of Maryland’s School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies, concentrating in video design and puppetry. Some of his recent lead design credits include This Bitter Earth (Theater Alliance), Airness (Keegan Theatre and 1st Stage), 14 (Theatre Prometheus), We Are Proud to Present… (Syracuse University), Los Gavilanes (Teatro Lirico), and Putin on Ice (Single Carrot Theatre). He has also had the pleasure of assisting designers at Signature Theatre (NYC), Imagination Stage, Round House, Studio Theatre, and Synetic Theater, as well as performing with DC’s own Pointless Theatre. Layali Aljirafi - Costumes Lead

Layali Aljirafi is a theatre performance major with a love for all things costumes. She is excited to work on a project that is not like any normal play. Show credits: Monty Pythons Spamalot! and As You Like it (the Musical). She is grateful the guidence she was given throughout her time at MC, she is happy to include that she will continue her theatrical education at the University of Maryland, College Park in Fall 2020. Lastly, she would like to thank her family, professors, and friends for always believing in her and helping her! She hopes everyone enjoys the show!!
